Helpful Information for first
time Auction participants.
As for the auctioneer and staff, we like to arrive at the auction location 2 hours prior to sale time. That gives us time to “set up” and prepare for the auction to start on time.
Most buyers/customers begin to show up about 1 hour prior to the advertised auction start time. This gives the buyers plenty of time to *register with cashier and still have time to view items to be sold. We feel it is important, you as a buyer to come early and look over all the merchandise that you are interested in. We try to represent the merchandise as we see it, But it’s up to you as the buyer to check over items BEFORE you bid. Once the auctioneer say’s “SOLD” that buyer is now the owner of the item. As all items are sold “AS IS” with “NO RETURNS”.
Our cashier is located in the Black “Office” trailer on the auction site.
* To register with cashier. You will need your drivers license along with complete and up to date mailing address and phone number. Your information will be recorded in our computer system, for faster service the next time you attend our auction. (Your information is NOT forwarded or sold to any other business nor to a third party, unless by law to turn over information to state or federal agency's)
Once your registered, the cashier gives you a “Bidder Card” (a pink card with your registered “buyer number” to be used for this particular auction). The back of the card can be used for writing down items you may be interested in. So bring a pen or pencil! You may want to write down a Highest amount you will be willing to pay next to the description of item for fast reference. You will be the only one to read/see the back of your card. Example: There’s several lamps on display. You are interested in The smaller brown lamp w/ducks on it $25.00. When the item comes across the auction block, viewing the back of your card, you can be reminded that is the one you are interested in. You are now wanting/ready to participate in possibly owning that lamp. I’ll give you a continued example to this a little further down.
The auction is about to begin. The auctioneer begins the auction by greeting the buyers, quoting the terms, introducing the auction help and thanking the sellers. You will see “Block workers” these are person’s that bring the merchandise to the auction block and will either hold the item up or set it on the Auction block where the auctioneer starts the chanting. If you have any questions, the block help or auctioneer will be willing to answer you question.
Once the Auctioneer states “SOLD” the buyer number and final selling price are given to our clerk, (sitting next to the auctioneer) to record on the “clerk sheet”. These sheets are periodically given to the cashier to be entered into our computer system that keeps a running total spent by each buyer according to their registered number.
The buyer is responsible for any and all items purchased from the time the auctioneer says “SOLD”. If you purchase a lot of items, you may take them to your vehicle, for safe keeping, but do not leave the auction site until payment has been made.
**Continuation of Previously mentioned Example: Remember the duck lamp you really want? We’ll it’s about to come across the block and you just found, someone else wants the lamp too! They just opened the bid at $5.00. You can now join in on the bidding. Raise your “Bidder card”, your hand, jump up and down, what ever it takes to get the auctioneer to see your wanting to bid on this item. Now you know what you are willing to pay for that duck lamp, by checking the back of your card as a reminder. But you have know idea what the other person is willing to pay. Maybe higher maybe lower. So don’t be discouraged. Just concentrate on YOUR maximum bid. The bidding may stop before it gets to your highest bid of $25.00 or it may go over your highest bid price. Know one knows what anyone else is thinking. If the items stops receiving bids at $18.00 and you are the one that’s got the $18.00 bid, The auctioneer say’s “SOLD!” She/he will now speak out your “bidder Number” You will now own it. As a reminder on how much you’ve spent, on the back of the card where you wrote the $25.00 you can now write in $18.00, that is what you just purchased the item for. You can continue to bid on every item you are interested in. You may even find more than you came for!
Cashing out: Before leaving the auction site. When you have bought all that you came for and are ready to leave, You must take your “Bidder Card” back to the Cashier to pay for items purchased. The cashier will ask you what the last item was that you bought. Verifying that the last “Clerk sheet” you were listed on was received and entered into our computer system. If the last item has not been received you will be asked to wait until that “Clerk sheet” comes in to the Cashier’s office. You are welcome to review all items listed that you purchases.
Our Auction TERMS: CASH or Known Checks are excepted. NO Out of state checks unless accompanied by bank letter of Guarantee or Prior approval.
Disputes: If for any reason you have a item that you say you didn’t purchase, the item has come up missing. Or a incorrect cost. You are responsible for paying for that particular item at the time of cashing out. Our auctions are tape recorded. In a dispute, the auctioneer will listen back to the tape and verify who bought the item. NOTE: This is done After the auction is over (the following day). Auctioneer Can NOT stop the auction to check the tape. IF, you in fact did purchase it and it was stolen. You will NOT receive a refund. IF, a mistake was made by part of the auction staff, you WILL receive a phone call stating the mistake was on our part and will in fact receive a refund in the mail. For as many items we have sold in the past, we have had VERY Few disputes. This stems from honesty from both buyers and the auction staff.
Auction methods of selling: As some items will be sold single, pairs, box lots. Some items will be at a “Choice and Privilege” (C & P) this means: There maybe 2 or more items of the same or similar description. Example: 3 Lamps. The auctioneer will say lets give them choice. So the bidding will start and the TOP bidder gets to pick their choice of ONE or more of the 3 lamps. After the top bidder is done picking, the back bidder gets to choose (if any is left/or desires to buy any of the remaining). After top bidder and back bidder are done picking and more is left of that particular choosing. The auctioneer may ask anyone else that wants one for the top price. Or The Bidding may start again.
Real Estate Selling: Please call auctioneer for details as to how bidding will be taking place.
If you need any further assistants or have questions. Please call the auctioneer or ask at the Cashiers office when you arrive.
We hope this makes you more comfortable in attending our Auction or others, We look forward to seeing you.
